I am a physician who works in a department of biomedical engineering. My research is about the signals the body gives off: PPG and ECG first of all, and respiratory sounds. It is also about the wearable devices that pick those signals up, from PPG and ECG sensors to spirometers and digital stethoscopes.

One practical question runs through all of it: what would it take for remote healthcare to stand on ground we can trust? I work along the whole chain, from the sensor that records a signal to the number a clinician finally reads, with conventional tools, signal processing and AI.

Medicine came first. I studied at Hacettepe University and became a chest physician, working in interventional pulmonology, endobronchial ultrasound and lung transplantation. Along the way I also earned a PhD in immunology and degrees in philosophy, sociology and agricultural technology.
